Charging your KIA Niro, e-Soul, EV6 or EV9. Here's your 3 best home charger options (EU and North America).

Updated: Feb 14, 2024

As I delve deeper into the automotive evolution, KIA's remarkable journey over the past decades stands out in a shift from nondescript and rather generic tiny city cars to cutting-edge electric vehicles (E.V.'s) and leading the pack in inventive technology and aesthetics. While tastes may vary, one undeniable fact is KIA's boldness in introducing innovative models, earning profound respect in the automotive realm.

If you're on the brink of purchasing a KIA and in need of a suitable charger, I've curated the 3 best home charger options that efficiently meet your needs, each offering distinct features to consider.

Firstly, let's disregard level 1 chargers as they're less relevant due to their extended charging time, approximately 20 hours to fully charge your KIA. However, it's advisable to carry a level 1 charger in your frunk for unforeseen scenarios on Route 66. This article primarily focuses on level 2 chargers, assuming your electrical circuit supports a 40A fuse and a capacity exceeding 10kW.

Zaptec Go

Starting with the Zaptec Go, KIA's endorsed Norwegian solution may be your best bet (when you're residing on the European continent). Awarded the prestigious international Red Dot Design Award in 2022 and crowned the top choice by the Norwegian Automobile Federation, the Zaptec Go's acclaim speaks volumes, especially in a country like Norway boasting the highest EV density globally. Its simplicity in installation and outstanding build quality sets it apart, comprising fewer components than competitors, potentially reducing installation costs. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, Zaptec offers a five-year warranty, with an intuitive app. However, note that Zaptec is currently available only in Scandinavian countries, with plans for further expansion. On top of that, all EU regulations are taken into acount. So it's a safe buy I would say even outside of Scandinavia. Prices start around €739.00 depending on where you are and possible subsidies.

EVduty-50

EV Duty 50 EV home charger

Moving across the Atlantic to North America, the EVduty-50 emerges as a popular go-to charging solution. While the Zaptec Go may overshadow it in design and simplicity, the EVduty lineup excels in durability, engineered to withstand harsh Canadian climates. Available in basic and smart versions, equipped with a universal SAE J1772 connector, compatible with all electric vehicles in North America, the EVduty requires 240 volts for its full 30-amp charging power. Prices for the EVduty-50 start at $799, with a commendable five-year warranty. Nice one!

Flo Home X5

Lastly, the Flo Home X5 earns recognition as an all-around favorite, particularly in North America. This smart, robust charger delivers up to 7.2 kW of power, equipped with a 25-foot cable, rubberized connector, and smart features for monitoring and scheduling charging sessions. While slightly pricier for a 30-amp charger, the Flo Home X5 offers a three-year warranty and comes in a nickel color option. And on top of that; it's been on the market since 2018, which is in my opinion a great proof of quality.

Summary

  • Zaptec GO: Sleek and compact, controlled via a mobile app, dynamic load balancing feature. Price: €739 (5-year warranty).

  • EVduty 50: Reliable and durable, made in Canada, compatible with all electric vehicles. Price: $799 (5-year warranty).

  • Flo Home X5: Tough and weatherproof, smart features, rubberized connector. Price: $695 (3-year warranty).
